Amsterdam Light Festival edition 13 – Rituals and Light art
The theme of Edition 13 of the Amsterdam Light Festival is ‘Rituals.’ Rituals play an important role in our lives and have been intertwined with light for centuries, symbolizing joy, life, and transformation. From candles during holidays to fireworks at New Year’s – light is essential in our rituals. This year, artists from various disciplines have created light artworks that reflect the many aspects of rituals, such as symbolism, repetition, and continuity.

A covered and heated cruise or an open boat
You have the choice of two different cruises during the Amsterdam Light Festival. For a comfortable experience during the cold winter months, you can opt for a 90-minute canal cruise on a covered and heated boat. During this cruise, you can listen to the official Amsterdam Light Festival audio guide, available in both Dutch and English.
For the adventurers who don’t mind braving the cold, or for the less chilly winter evenings, there’s the option to sail on an open boat. These boats have a maximum capacity of 25 people and can get closer to the artworks. The skipper will provide live commentary about the installations. Practical information
- Audio guide: During the cruise, you can listen to the official Amsterdam Light Festival audio guide in Dutch or English.
- Departure times: The Amsterdam Light Festival cruises run daily from November 28, 2024, to January 19, 2025, between 5:00 PM and 11:00 PM. Please note: There are no cruises on Christmas Day (December 25) and New Year’s Eve (December 31).
- Departure point: You will depart from the Blue Boat dock at Stadhouderskade 501, opposite the Hard Rock Café.
- Wheelchair accessibility: Our wheelchair-accessible boats are available during specific time slots (7:00 PM and 9:00 PM). Please reserve in advance and mention during booking if someone in your party uses a wheelchair, so we can arrange a suitable boat for you. Alternatively, contact our reservations team.
